Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team defeated Anderson University (8-8-1) this evening in the quarterfinal round of the South Atlantic Conference Championships to advance to the semifinal round. Queens now sits at 10-7 on the season.
After seeing the Trojans score an early goal in tonight's game, Queens rallied from behind to score a pair and take the win.
Nick Bryant of the Trojans netted the first goal of the game in the 14
th minute with a header off of a corner from Brad Du Plooy. However, Queens would match Bryant's goal in the 22
nd with a header from junior midfielder
Caio Maciel, tying the game up at 1-1.
Corey Brown was awarded the assist on the play after sending the ball into the box on a corner kick.
Queens would see its game-winner come from junior forward
Ryan Ejezie in the second half. Brown found Ejezie inside the box after using his speed to race past Anderson's defenders up the right side of the field. The midfielder then slid a pass to Ejezie, who zipped the ball into the net for the 2-1 lead.
Queens outshot the Trojans 14-10, putting four shots on frame. Goalkeeper
Matt Current totaled four saves in the win, while Devon Ashy totaled two saves for Anderson.
The Royals will take on top seeded Carson-Newman on Friday at 11 a.m. at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, N.C. The Eagles defeated Brevard, 4-0, to advance to the semifinals.
