Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte Women's Basketball team would go to 2-1 on the season after defeating Johnson & Wales 71-33 in their first ever meeting on Wednesday, November 18, 2015. The Royals would allow the Wildcats to shoot only 28% in the game.
Carmen Richardson led the Royals offensively as she scored 22 points in the game. She also tallied five rebounds and three assists for Queens.
Erin Brundage was second on the team in scoring as she scored 12 points as well as adding in three assists and two rebounds. Eight players for the Royals would score at least four points in the game.
The Royals were strong from the free throw line in tonight's game as they shot 17-20 from the charity stripe. Queens was also very tenacious defensively as they forced the Wildcats into 23 turnovers and they outrebounded their opponents 40-27.
Queens would start the game going 5-of-8 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line as they took a 15-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Royals started the second quarter off in strong fashion as they went on a 5-0 run that ended with a
Nikki Gleason jumper to bring the lead to 20-12. Their run would continue through the second quarter, as the Royals defense would only allow the Wildcats to score eight points in the quarter. Queens would take a 34-20 lead into the half following a made jumper by
Erin Brundage. The Royals caused 13 turnovers in the first half, leading to 18 points for the Royals.
The Royals would start the third quarter just as they ended the first half, on a scoring run. Queens would come out on a 9-2 run after a couple of baskets by
Carmen Richardson as well as a basket and a couple of made free throws by Karlesha Thompson to make the score 43-22 with 5:26 remaining in the third. The Royals would hit the half-century mark at the end of the third quarter as they held a 50-24 lead. Queens would continue to dominate defensively throughout the fourth quarter as their lead grew to 62-30 following a made layup by Richardson with 4:02 remaining in the game.
Sheridan Pressley would score the last bucket of the game for the Royals as they defeated the Wildcats 71-33.
Donyelle Stuetley led the Wildcats with 10 points to go along with eight rebounds in the game. She was followed by Bianca Covington and Precillya Dixon who each scored seven points apiece for Johnson & Wales.
The Royals return to action on Saturday, November 21st as they travel to play the University of South Carolina – Aiken at 5:00 p.m.
