Royals Top Mars Hill off a Service Ace from Mancini

Box Score Charlotte, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team saw Megan Mancini break a 1,000 digs in the match against the Mars Hill University Lions as Mancini tabbed 21 digs in the match to reach a total of 1,019, ranking third in Queens' history for the stat line. The Royals went on to take the match 3-1 on Friday, October 30, 2015, with Mancini grabbing the match point with a service ace to help the team go 25-15, 17-25, 25-14, 25-11 against the Lions and move to a 10-13 overall record and 8-9 in the South Atlantic Conference. Mars Hill would fall to 8-14 overall record and 4-12 in conference play.

Mancini would tally four service aces in the match against the Lions in addition to four assists. Meredith Jones found 16 kills in the match to lead the team while Sydney Kunz took 20 assists.

An even run through the first few points had Queens holding a slight lead until Jones gave the team momentum with a kill at 13-10. The Royals would take five unanswered points on the run to move in front 17-10 with Mars Hill burning a timeout along the way. The run gave Queens the set win as the team worked its way to a ten point gap.

Mars Hill found early spacing in the second set as the Lions doubled Queens at 10-5 and again a 14-7. Queens managed to fight back to make the score 15-12 but could not keep the drive alive as Mars Hill went on to take the set.

An eight point run gave Queens a 10-2 lead in the second set as the Royals started their push for the match.  Mars Hill used their second timeout to stop a 5-0 run from the Royals (15-4), but Queens continued to build upon their lead taking hold of the game at 25-14.

Again, Queens took a fast start to find themselves ahead in the set at 10-5. Mars Hill took their second timeout at 18-10 as Queens slowly gained control on the match. The team took a 7-0 run to claim victory with Mancini's service ace topping the match.

The Lions had a three way tie from Rebecca Butler, Lauren Hochstetler, and Maddie Spurgeon who each tallied nine kills for the team. Victoria Kaiser led the Lions in digs, grabbing 21 in the match while Andie Russell took 30 assists.

Queens will head to Tusculum tomorrow to face the Pioneers at 2 p.m.
