Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team collected a 5-0 shutout victory today at Dickson Field, defeating the Tornados of Brevard College. The win was the first for the Royals this season bringing their overall record to 1-5 and their conference record to 1-1. The Tornados record now sits at 2-3-1 on the year and 0-2 in the South Atlantic Conference.
Queens showed its fans glimpses of things to come in the future for the young squad as it just seemed that things were starting to jell tonight. Outshooting the Tornados 7-2 in the opening half, they found themselves holding a 2-0 lead at the break.
The first goal of the night would be a beauty as
Ryan Ejezie delivered a back-heeled pass to
Marc-Kevin Schwenk who right footed the ball into the back right corner of the net.
Isaac Walker would score the second goal for the Royals seconds after subbing into play, beating the Brevard keeper, Heath Turner, near post on his first touch after receiving a pass from
Philip Makhlouf.
The halftime break did not slow the Royals down as they added three more to the goal count before the end of regulation.
A corner kick from Schwenk would meet the head of
Michael Valenzuela for his first goal of the season in the 49
th minute, giving the Royals a 3-0 advantage.
Schwenk would then take a shot of his own in the 53
rd that was blocked by Turner. Unfortunately for the Tornados, Turner couldn't wrap his hands around the ball, giving Queens' Makhlouf a chance to capitalize and put the ball in the back of the net.
The Royals' fifth goal of the night would come from the boot of Walker again who delivered a one touch goal on a low cross from
Ryan King.
Queens outshot the Tornados 17-3 en route to picking up tonight's win.
Montrell Morgan recorded his first clean sheet of the year, totaling three saves. Turner completed play with six saves for Brevard.
The Royals are back on the road to continue conference play at Anderson on September 24. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
