Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Queens University of Charlotte hosted the Eagles of Carson-Newman on Friday, September 19, 2014 to kick off conference competition in the South Atlantic Conference. The Royals struggled in attacking during their 3-0 loss to the Eagles conceding the match 25-18, 25-15, 25-18.
Meredith Jones led the Royals for the night tallying eight kills and two aces.
Megan Mancini would grab 15 digs for the Royals.
Queens came out against the Carson-Newman strong going point for point to start the first set; however the Royals soon found themselves looking out of a 5-8 hole.
Elizabeth Bialkowski and
Meredith Jones each slammed one onto the Eagles side to bring the game back within two at 9-7. The Royals would be unable to capitalize off the momentum forced into a 16-11 timeout. Unable to recover, the Royals would fall in the first set to Carson-Newman 25-18.
The Eagles came out swinging to start the second, firing off four fast shots forcing a Queens' timeout at 4-1. The Royals would again find themselves in need of a timeout at 11-5 after Sara Fairley grabbed four points for the Eagles. As the Royals struggled to establish a rhythm, Carson-Newman would capitalize taking set two 25-15.
The beginning of the third set was a battle for both teams. With
Alex Thompson, Jones, and Bialkowski each grabbing kills for the Royals. Queens used their first timeout of the set to try and reel the Eagles in after they jumped took a 12-9 lead. However, three attacking errors by the Royals would give the Eagles a 16-10 hold and force another Queens timeout. Although Royals would continue to battle, they would be unable to catch Carson-Newman who took the match on a 25-18 third set.
The team will look to bounce back as they host Lincoln-Memorial tomorrow at 2:00 PM.
