Men’s soccer falls in double OT heartbreaker to Francis Marion

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team forced the Patriots of Francis Marion, ranked ninth in the southeast region, to double overtime this evening. The Royals fell 1-0, dropping their record to 0-3, while the Patriots improved to 3-0 with the regional win.

The Patriots were able to score the golden goal when Julius Broman snuck the ball past Queens' keeper Montrell Morgan in the 106th minute of play. Broman was able to collect the ball on a rebound off of a save made by Morgan when Jeremy Boyaa of the Patriots took a shot.

Both teams battled on the defensive end throughout the entire game. It was Morgan who came up big for the Royals on a number of mighty shot efforts by the Patriots. Two key saves would come in the 79th and 80th minute of regulation as Francis Marion turned up the pressure on the offensive end sensing time ticking off the clock. The latter shot would come from Broman, the eventual game-winner, sending Morgan diving to the ground stretched to his max.

In the first overtime period, the Royals found themselves with a great opportunity to put the game away in the 97th minute when a deflected ball served into the box found the boot of Kevin Anderson. Unfortunately, the ball came in high and Anderson was unable to get on top of it to send it into the net. Instead the shot went up and over the crossbar and the second overtime was forced.

Queens was edged in shots by the Patriots, 18-15. Both teams were even in corner kicks at 11. Morgan finished the game with seven saves, while Warn totaled three for Francis Marion.

Queens will begin conference play on Saturday at Tusculum College. The game is set to begin at 6 p.m.
