Box Score SALISBURY, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte scored five goals in the first five minutes of play to help them defeat South Atlantic Conference opponent Catawba College in women's lacrosse action. The Royals, ranked 12
th in the nation, improve to 5-0 in the league and 10-4 on the season with the win. The Indians drop to 7-7 on the year and 3-2 in the SAC.
Jena Ready led the Royals with four goals, while
Brittany Larranaga added a hat trick.
Kelly Dowd chipped in with two goals and one assist, while
Nicole Forgione added two goals.
Abigail Paulus also notched two points with one goal and an assist.
Brittany Barnwell led the Royals in draw controls with four, while also tallying two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
After getting off to a 5-0 start in the opening five minutes of action on the backs of Ready and Larranaga who each notched two goals, the Royals were able to shut the Indians out and head into the locker room at the half with a 7-0 advantage.
Catawba would get on the board 2:55 into the second with a goal from Ebony Mills making the score 7-1. Teammate Alyssa Corace followed putting a ball in the net at 24:37 to cut Queens' lead to five.
Queens would answer with two quick goals before the 20 minute mark to extend their lead back out to seven.
Following another two goal push from the Indians, Queens scored three consecutive goals while also holding the Indians scoreless in the final 17 minutes of play.
The Royals outshot Catawba 41-17 and won the ground ball battle, 25-20.
Danielle Horoschak took the win in goal after totaling two saves in the first half.
Jordan Borrosh and
Christine Wiese saw time in the second half totaling a combined six saves.
Mills led the Indians with two goals on the day. Bethany Davis took the loss in the net after getting 15 stops.
Queens is on the road at Brevard Saturday at noon to wrap up the regular season.
