Rollins earns one hit victory against Catawba

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SALISBURY, N.C. – The Queens softball team was on the road today when they travelled to Catawba College to take on the Indians. In a day highlighting strong play by the pitchers of both teams, the Royals were able to take game one 1-0, but dropped the second 3-2.

Game one

Ashley Rollins strong play from the circle was the story of game one when she held the Indians to just one hit and zero runs in the game. Rollins went eight innings while striking out two, and picked up her fifth win of the year.

Offensively the Royals struggled, and only picked up five hits in the game. Their lone run came in extra innings when Whitney Britt scored on a throwing error in the eighth.

Game two

Once again pitching was the story of the game when both pitchers combined to only give up nine hits in seven innings. Ultimately it was Lyndey McCurry who drew the short end of the straw and picked up a loss following a productive six innings where she only game up three runs.

The Royals only picked up four hits in the game which were good for two runs. Britt led Queens with two hits.

Queens is now 15-17 overall and 3-7 in conference play. They travel to Mars Hill on Saturday.
