Royals offense slowed on Carson-Newman’s senior day

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Royals softball team travelled to Carson-Newman to face off against Eagles in a South Atlantic Conference matchup. The Royals struggled throughout the day to get their offense going, and ultimately fell by the scores of 5-2 and 10-1.

Game one

In game one the home side jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the third, but the Royals were quick to retaliate when Whitney Britt scored a run on a wild pitch in the fourth. Carson-Newman was quick to fire back when they picked up three in the fifth to take the score to 5-1.

The Royals were able to tack one more run on the board off an Emma Schultz sacrifice fly in the sixth, but that was all they could produce and the home sealed a victory by that score.

Britt led the Royals with two hits, and Ashley Rollins and Lyndey McCurry combined to give up three earned runs.

Game two

In game two the Royals offense once again found itself forced to produce from behind. Down 2-0 in the second Queens scored its lone run off a Kaitlyn Cheek solo home run. But, from there on it was Eagles runners touching home as Carson-Newman took the game 10-1 in five innings.

Queens is now 21-25 overall and 5-15 in conference play.
