Box Score HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Queen University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team travelled to participate in its first South Atlantic Conference game in program history. Facing off against the Cobras of Coker, the Royals were able to shake off any ill effects of Monday's loss to Regis, and took the game be the score 14-8.
The Royals jumped to an early 3-0 lead with
Jena Ready,
Brittany Larranaga and
Maggie Masters all burning the home team's defense before their opponents were able to pick up a goal of their own. The Royals were able to go on another multiple goal run later in the half, netting five goals to take the lead to 9-2.
Following an unassisted
Arika Zimmerman goal, the Royals took a comfortable 10-3 lead into half.
From the whistle to resume play the Royals faced an invigorated home side in the second half, and were only able to tack on four more goals to their total. But the Royals defense held strong and for the second time this season held their opponents to single digit goals.
Abigail Paulus led the Royals with five goals and two assists on the day, with fellow freshmen
Kelly Dowd and
Kourtney Goebel tacking on two goals apiece.
Three Royals goalies combined for eight saves of sixteen shots, and the Larranaga and
Christine Wiese led Queens with three ground balls.
The Royals are now 4-2 overall and 1-0 in SAC play. The Royals host Lenoir-Rhyne March 14 at 4:00 p.m.
