Box Score Charlotte, NC - Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball (0-2) fell to Mount Olive (1-1) 54-44 on Saturday, November 15, 2014, in the second day of play for the South Atlantic Conference versus Conference Carolinas Challenge. The Trojans would start the second half with a 9-0 run.
Queens' offense was evenly spread as Lacey Singletary, McKell Oliverio, and Carmen Richardson each found nine points in the game. Oliverio would have the Royals only three-pointer while Singletary led defensively with two blocks and two steals. Royals lead the turnover battle forcing 16 on the Trojans side while only giving up 14 themselves.
The Trojans found two players for double-digits as Ty Wallace took 21 total points for the day with five rebounds. Gabby Griffin would follow her with 10 points, three blocks, and two steals. Mount Olive found only two baskets from outside the arch.
It would be a foul from the Royals that put the first points on the board with Griffin going one for two from the line. Abby Pettit, however, grabbed the first basket from the floor giving Queens a 2-1 lead five minutes into the game. Play would favor the Trojans as they took a slight lead but Oliverio grabbed it back, securing an offensive rebound for an easy bounce off the glass (9-7). Queens found room to pull away with Karleasha Thompson and Oliverio finding a basket (14-12). However, Griffin put the Trojans back in the lead with a block and fast break layup (16-14). The two teams battled with the Trojans hold just a two point lead with under four left to play in the first (18-16). Trojans found some space coming out of the under four media taking a going up 21-16 but the Royals refused to cave as Pettit brought the team back within one with a long two-pointer. Arieal Johnson gave the Trojans one last basket before the two sides went to half with a Mount Olive lead of 23-20.
Trojans came out to a 9-0 run to start the second half and push their lead to 32-20 game before Oliverio found the net for two points. Continuing their build, Mount Olive forced the Royals to call timeout at a 40-26 game with 13 minutes left to play. Richardson found the Royals first basket from the floor after a five minute dry spell as the team continued to trail 46-31. Oliverio found Singletary for an easy layup two minutes later but the Royals were unable to make up ground trailing 48-34. Singletary would have fast break layup down the court with six minutes left to play and a trailing score of 48-38. Richardson made one last play for the Royals taking a layup and the foul to convert the three-point play. The Trojans would walk away with a 54-44 score.
The Royals immediately head into conference play with their first game coming on November 19th at home against Lenoir-Rhyne (0-2).
