Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team welcomed Catawba College to Dickson Field this evening, falling 2-1 to the Indians in South Atlantic Conference play. The Royals now sit at 3-8 on the season and 3-3 in the league, while Catawba improves to 3-7-1 on the year and 1-4-1 in the SAC.
The Royals fell short in equalizing the match in the final 19 minutes of action following a go ahead goal from Catawba's Michael Basnett in the 71
st. Basnett was able to get behind the Royals' defense and beat Queens' keeper one-on-one to score his goal and give the Indians what would be the lead for good.
In the first half of play, the Indians found themselves with a 1-0 lead in the 24
th minute. Adam Kurdi scored the goal after receiving the ball from Brian Woulfe in the box. He then sent it into the back of the net for the first goal of the game.
The Royals'
Philip Makhlouf was able to knot the game at 1-1 with a goal in the 61
st. Makhlouf rebounded a saved shot from
Corey Brown, and put it in the net for the score.
The Royals were edged 12-11 in shots this evening, while winning four corner kicks.
Montrell Morgan totaled three saves in goal.
Queens is back at Dickson Field on Saturday against Lincoln Memorial at 7:30 p.m.
