Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team hosted the Carson-Newman College Eagles at Dickson Field this evening, falling 2-0 to the Eagles on Senior Night. The Royals now sit at 3-7 in South Atlantic Conference play and 3-12 on the year, while Carson-Newman improves to 6-7-2 on the year and 5-3-2 in the league.
The Royals celebrated the careers of seniors
Kevin Anderson and
Montrell Morgan at the half of tonight's final regular season home match. Over four seasons, Anderson has started in 59 games, scoring nine goals. He has been named to the all-conference, all-state and all-tournament teams during his career. This season, he earned the honor or being a team captain.
Since joining the Royals in 2012, Morgan has logged nearly 3700 minutes in goal with 41 starts. He currently has a career total of 167 saves and 11 shutouts. He also ranks 22nd in the nation in goals against average, 24th in saves, 29th in save percentage and 37th in saves per game this season. Montrell has been named to the all-conference, all-tournament and all-state teams during his career, and this year he too earned the honor of being a team captain.
Queens trailed the Eagles by two goals at the break after being outshot 8-2. The first goal would come in the fourth minute following an unfortunate handball called inside the box. Carson-Newman's Lucas Siqueira would step up to score the penalty kick, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Their second goal would come in the 31
st minute after Stuart Oliver sent a one timer into the upper left corner of the net from about 30 yards out.
The Royals saw a few opportunities to find the back of the net in the second period. One chance came from the boot of
Ryan Ejezie, but the ball sailed just high of the goal in the 62
nd minute. Another would come in the 76
th minute when
Marc-Kevin Schwenk drilled a shot into the post.
Queens finished the game with seven shots to Carson-Newman's 14. Morgan finished the night in goal with three saves for Queens, while Micah Varner of the Eagles tallied one save.
Queens will have the week off before ending the regular season at Lenoir-Rhyne next Saturday.
