Box Score MARS HILL, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team traveled to face Mars Hill University this afternoon, falling 3-2 to the Lions in South Atlantic Conference play. The loss puts the Royals' record at 3-10 on the year and 3-5 in the league. The Lions improve to 6-6 on the season and 6-2 in the SAC.
After a scoreless first half, Amine Merdjett put the Lions ahead 2-0 with back-to-back goals in the second half, one coming in the 64
th minute and the other in the 70
th.
Queens'
Ryan Ejezie would bring the Royals to within one with his second goal of the season in the 77
th minute. Ejezie scored from 25 yards out after receiving a pass from
Marc-Kevin Schwenk.
The Royals would remain aggressive in search for a game-tying goal, but Mars Hill keeper Oliver Pannell and his backline turned away two shots on goal from the visiting squad. The Lions then found a goal in the 83
rd when Brayhan Yrio stole the ball from a defender in the box before putting it in the back of the net.
A foul in the box by Mars Hill's goalkeeper in the 87
th minute of play would result in a penalty kick for the Royals. Schwenk was able to score the penalty kick, giving the game a final score of 3-2.
The Royals are back in action at home against No. 19 Wingate University on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
