Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team fell 58-36 to Lincoln Memorial University this afternoon in Curry Arena. The South Atlantic Conference loss brings Queens' league record to 4-6 and their overall record to 5-9. The Railsplitters improve to 8-6 on the season and 7-3 in the conference.
The Royals as a team struggled shooting today, posting a 27.5 field goal percentage. Senior forward
Shonice Pettaway led the way for Queens scoring 15 points, while also grabbing seven rebounds. The Royals' next leading scorer was junior guard
Abby Pettit who added six points and totaled five rebounds.
In a low scoring first half that saw three ties in the opening 10 minutes of action, the Railsplitters were able to go on a 6-0 run and take a 15-9 lead with 8:49 on the clock. Pettaway would respond with a three for Queens to cut LMU's lead in half, but that was as close as the Royals would get to the Railsplitters in the half as another 6-0 spurt would put them ahead nine. A three-pointer in the final two seconds of the half from Pettaway would give the game a 24-18 score at the break.
LMU's shooting percentage in the second half would improve from their 29-percent performance in the first half to 41.2-percent enabling the Railsplitters to take control of the game as the Royals continued to have a hard time putting the ball in the basket.
A jumper at 19:31 from Pettaway would be the only field goal for Queens for a span of about 10 minutes. During that time, the Railsplitters built their lead out to as much as 19 points.
Queens' offense would get going in the latter part of the half, and a three-pointer from sophomore guard
Erin Brundage would bring the Royals to within 12 with 7:15 to play. However, the Railsplitters would close the game with another run increasing their lead out to as much as 22 points before the final horn sounded.
Queens was outrebounded 57-29 in today's game with LMU grabbing 24 offensive boards. LMU scored 19 second chance points off of their rebounding efforts.
MaRanda Boddie led LMU with 20 points and 13 rebounds, While Samantha Satterlee and Aisjah Roan scored 10 points apiece.
Queens is at home on Wednesday night against Lenoir-Rhyne University at 6 p.m.
