Box Score MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte (8-9) traveled to face No. 6 Pfeiffer University (13-1) in their final regular season game of the year, falling 17-9 to the Falcons. The Royals head into the conference tournament as the number three seed at 5-2, while Pfeiffer holds the number two spot at 5-1.
Sophomore attacker
Jena Ready (Charlotte, N.C., Charlotte Catholic) led the Royals with four goals, while
Maggie Masters (Annapolis, Md., Annapolis) and
Nicole Forgione (Davidson, N.C., Northern Guilford) notched two apiece. Masters also tallied one assist.
Danielle Horoschak (Jarrettsville, Md., North Harford) and
Jordan Borrosh (Portsmouth, R.I., Portsmouth) each spent time in the net recording a combined total of eight saves.
After jumping out to a 3-2 lead over the Falcons, Queens found themselves in a hole down 10-3 with 12:01 to play in the first; following a Pfeiffer 8-0 run. The Royals would head into the break trailing the home team, 11-5.
Queens notched two goals five minutes into the second half closing the gap to four, but the Falcons would respond with a four-point push, extending their lead back out to 8, 15-7, with 10:22 to play. They would go on to win by eight goals as each team scored twice more before the final horn.
Ashleigh Kassab led the Falcons with nine goals, while Shannon Bonnel record three goals and one assist. Sarah Daly collected six points on two goals and four assists. Carly Garrison added two goals and two assists.
Queens will host the quarterfinal round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament Tuesday at 7 p.m. They are waiting to find out who their opponent will be.
