Men’s lacrosse falls to Mars Hill on the road

Box Score MARS HILL, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte (7-6) closed their regular season with an 11-8 loss to Mars Hill College (9-3) on the road this afternoon. Queens heads into the Conference Carolinas Tournament next weekend as the number three seed with a 4-2 record.  
 
Evan Farkas (Havre de Grace, Md., C. Milton Wright) led the Royals in scoring today with four goals on seven shots. Garrett Chan (Port Coquitlam, B.C., Terry Fox Secondary School) added two. Eric Dolan (Hopkinton, Mass., St. Mark's School) took the loss in the net after getting 13 stops.
 
The Royals had a tough time getting into a rhythm on the offensive end scoring one goal with 8:28 to play in the first period and not scoring again until 18 seconds before the horn. The Lions would put three in the net between Queens' goals to win the quarter 3-2.
 
Mars Hill opened the second quarter with three goals in a row to go up 6-2 with 9:53 to play. Chan fired one in the net for Queens at 8:04, but his goal was followed by two from the Lions making the score 8-3. Kevin Hornik would find Farkas who put one in the net with eight seconds to play bringing Queens to within four, 8-4, heading into the break.
 
Both teams scored two goals apiece in the third quarter leaving the Lions ahead four, 10-6, heading into the final period.
 
Queens scored two straight cutting the Lions' lead to two, 10-8, with 8:54 to play. The Queens takeover was cut short however as the Royals were prevented from scoring again in the game.
 
Dan Applebaum led Mars Hill with a hat trick, while Kile Garrett, Jimmy McBride and Anthony Malcolm each notched two goals. McBride also tallied three assists and Garrett tallied two. Malcolm added one assist.
 
The Royals will be back in action next weekend at the Conference Carolinas Tournament in Burlington, N.C.
