Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After leading 4-3 at the half, the Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team (4-4) went cold in the second as they fell 14-8 to No. 10 Pfeiffer University (8-1). The Royals drop to 2-1 in the league after picking up their first conference loss, while the Falcons improve to 2-0.
Garrett Chan (Port Coquitlam, B.C., Terry Fox Secondary School) led the Royals with five points on four goals and one assist, while
Connor Morgan (Little Compton, R.I., Portsmouth) was the next leading scorer with two goals.
Patrick Murphy (Easton, Pa., Easton Area) was a force on the defensive end collecting five caused turnovers and six ground balls, while also winning 5-of-8 face-offs.
Eric Dolan (Hopkinton, Mass., St. Mark's School) recorded 19 saves in the net.
Following a tightly contested first period, the game sat knotted at 2-2. Queens would take the lead on a goal from
Tyler Van Horn (Cary, N.C., Cardinal Gibbons) at 11:42 in the second. Steven Tilmon of Pfeiffer would tie things back up at 8:50, but Chan would give Queens the lead at the break scoring the final goal of the half at 2:51.
The Falcons' offense would get hot in the third as they went on a 5-0 run in the final six minutes.
Casey Hock's (Danville, Calif., Monte Vista) goal with 35 seconds on the clock was the final of the quarter, making the score 10-6.
Queens would fall behind seven, 13-6, with 5:47 left in regulation, following three straight from the Falcons in the fourth. With 5:33 to play, Chan fired the ball into the net hoping to spark a comeback, but time was on the Falcons' side as Queens was only able to score once more before the clock reached zero.
Robert Hope, James Shepherd and Tilmon each recorded hat tricks for the Falcons. Hope also notched two assists, giving him five points. Khalid Stukes won 14-of-23 face-offs, and Hayden Kirk took the win in goal after getting 13 saves.
Queens is back in action at home on March 27 against Lees-McRae. Face-off is at 4 p.m.
