Queens softball opens season at Bobcat Blast

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Queens University of Charlotte softball team was on the road to open their season in the 2013 Bobcat Blast hosted by Georgia College and State. The Royals took on Georgia Southwestern in a doubleheader in which they won the first game 11-9, but dropped the second by the score of 11-4.
 
The story of game one was the hot bats of the Royals who piled in 11 runs on 12 hits. Leading the way with multiple hits was Whitney Britt (Gibson, N.C., Scotland) with four, Kaitlyn Cheek (Richmond, Va., JR Tucker ) with three, and Emma Schultz (Silver Spring, Md., Paint Branch) with three. Schultz led the way with five RBIs for the Royals. The third inning was especially explosive for the Royals as both Britt and Schultz homered, and the Royals picked up four runs.
 
Backed by the red-hot offense freshman Kaitlyn Bodine (Scottsville, Va., Monticello) picked up her first career win, allowing four runs in four and two thirds innings of work from the mound.
 
In game two the Royals struggled to find their potent offense and were outfit 13-6, as Noemi Rodriguez (Miami, Fla., G. Holmes Braddock Senior ) and Schultz were the only Royals that were able to pick up multiple hits in the game. Lyndey McCurry (Commerce, Ga., Hebron Christian) pitched four and two thirds innings and allowed two earned runs, but Queens' defense struggle in the field and gave up six errors.
 
The Royals return to action today when they take on Georgia College and State in a double header starting at 4:30 p.m.
