Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Casey Hock (Danville, Calif., Monte Vista) recorded a hat trick and three assists for six points to lead Queens University of Charlotte (2-2) past Coker College (1-3) this evening at Dickson Field. The Royals defeated the Cobras 14-6 to begin Conference Carolinas play at 1-0. Coker begins league play at 0-1.
After leading 2-0 at the end of the first quarter, the Royals really got going in the second scoring five goals compared to Coker's three. At the half, the Royals led 7-3.
Queens was able to expand their lead to 8, 11-3, scoring four back-to-back by the 6:38 mark. The Cobras would close the third period netting two in the final five minutes to cut Queens' lead to six.
The Royals continued their stellar play on the offensive end in the fourth, beginning with Hock juking two defenders to score at 13:26.
Nick Wilkinson (Huntingtown, Md., The Calverton School) was credited with the assist on the play. Coker's Keith LaClair would respond just over a minute later to make the score 12-6, but that was as close as the Cobras would get as Queens found the back of the net twice more over the next two minutes. The Royals then forced the Cobras into five turnovers, while notching four saves in the final 10 minutes of action to secure the victory.
The Royals collected 27 ground balls to Coker's 19 this evening, and won 12 of the 21 face-offs.
T.C. Whaley (Carlsbad, Calif., La Costa Canyon) also recorded three goals, while
Bobby Berman (North Andover, Mass., North Andover) added two. Wilkinson finished with two assists.
Garrett Chan (Port Coquitlam, B.C., Terry Fox Secondary School), Evan Farkas (Havre de Grace, Md., C. Milton Wright), and
Jason Krogulski (Naperville, Ill., Benet Academy) each notched two points. On the defensive end,
Dillon Draper (Huntingtown, Md., The Calverton School) and
Patrick Murphy (Easton, Pa., Easton Area) combined for nine caused turnovers. Murphy also collected three ground balls.
Eric Dolan (Hopkinton, Mass., St. Mark's School) defended the net, collecting 11 saves and the win.
Steve Marciano and LaClair led the Cobras with two goals apiece. Josh Masciarelli collected seven saves in the loss.
The Royals return to action on Saturday, March 9 at noon at the Queens Sports Complex.
