Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte hosted No. 10 LIU Post this afternoon at Dickson Field at the Queens Sports Complex falling 10-6 to the Pioneers. The Royals drop to 1-1 on the season, while LIU Post begins their season at 1-0.
Following a high-paced first quarter where the Royals fell behind 5-1, Queens pulled it together to score three in a row in the final 10 minutes of the second. Queens' run would cut LIU Post's lead to three, 7-4 at the break. Attacker
Evan Farkas (Havre de Grace, Md., C. Milton Wright) and midfielder
Nick Wilkinson (Huntingtown, Md., The Calverton School) picked up two points apiece during the run.
Both defenses held strong in the third period only allowing a combined total of two goals to be scored. Farkas would score at 12:20 on a feed from Wilkinson cutting the Pioneers' lead to two, 7-5. However, a goal at 2:07 from LIU Post's Ryan Slane would extend their lead back out to three before the end of the period.
In the fourth period,
Jimmy Chickerella snuck one in the net at 10:15 to bring Queens back to within two of the Pioneers, 8-6. That would be the final goal from the Royals though, as Anthony DeLuca of LIU Post notched two in the final minute of action to insure the victory for the visitors.
Farkas and Wilkinson finished the game with three points apiece.
Dillon Draper (Huntingtown, Md., The Calverton School) totaled four caused turnovers and four ground balls.
Ty Baugh (Charlotte, N.C., Christ School) also collected four ground balls.
Nick Simonetti (Dublin, Ohio, Dublin Jerome) picked up his first loss in goal after getting 10 saves.
Slane led the Pioneers with three goals, while DeLuca finished with two goals and one assist. Tim Bradley notched seven saves in the net.
The Royals host No. 2 Mercyhurst College on Sunday, February 24 at 1 p.m.
