Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte began its women's lacrosse season at home today with a 15-5 win over Erskine College (2-1) at Dickson Field at the Queens Sports Complex. The Royals begin their season at 1-0 in conference play, while the Flying Fleet picked up their first loss.
Sophomore
Jena Ready (Charlotte, N.C., Charlotte Catholic) and junior
Arika Zimmerman (Fulton, Md., Reservoir) led the Royals in scoring with four goals apiece. Freshman
Brittany Larranaga (Orlando, Fla., Bishop Moore Catholic) also recorded four points after notching two goals and two assists. Goalkeeper
Danielle Horoschak (Jarrettsville, Md., North Harford) picked up the win in goal after collecting three saves and four ground balls. Senior
Allie Rhodes (Davidsonville, Md., South River) totaled four ground balls and five caused turnovers.
The Royals began the game with a goal 18 seconds into action form Ready. They would then score six more before Erskine closed the half with one at 2:38.
Ready got the Royals going in the second notching three in a row. Two more would follow for Queens as they extended their lead to 11, 12-1, with 22:57 to play. The Flying Fleet got hot, scoring three in a row over the next seven minutes of action, but the deficit was too great to come back from as Queens rolled on to the 15-5 victory.
The Royals outshot Erskine 35-10 and collected 29 ground balls to Erskine's eight.
Samantha Burns led the Flying Fleet with a hat trick. Konstandena Brown collected 14 saves in goal.
Queens returns to action on Monday when they host No. 5 Rollins College.
