Royals women beat conference rival Wingate

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte swim program hosted conference rival Wingate University today in the pool at the Levine Center for Wellness and Recreation. In a heated dual meet the Royals women were able to beat the Bulldogs 123-122, while the men lost by the score of 105-140.
 
Women's Results
 
The Royals women's team started off the meet with incredible races by freshman Hannah Peiffer, who won the 100 backstroke and the 100 butterfly in the B-cut times of 57.30 and 57.19 respectively. Peiffer also picked up another victory and B-cut later in the race when she took the 200 butterfly in the time of 2:07.04.
 
In the distance race sophomore Meridith Boudreaux turned in a second place finish in the 1000 freestyle. The Royals continued this streak in the next few races as Lillian Gordy took second in the 200 freestyle with a B-cut of 1:53.36, and Kristin Diemer finished second in the 50 freestyle. Freshman Shane Knight also turned in a strong swim in the 100 freestyle when she touched the wall in second place.
 
Rounding out the meet for the women were dual first place finishes and B-cut times for Caroline Arakelian when she finished the 200 IM in the time of 2:06.08, and the 200 backstroke in 2:00.23. Gordy followed suit with a win in the 500 freestyle in the time of 5:08.96.
 
The Royals rounded out their night and took the victory with a dominant 800 freestyle relay victory. Arakelian, Gordy, Lauren Frizzell, and Knight teamed up to turn in a 7:49.37 and win by margin of 10 seconds.
 
 
Men's Results
 
Harry Traystman started off the meet on the men's side when he took first place in the 100 back in the time of 51.55. Following him were Niclas Eriksson with a win the 100 breaststroke, and Matthew Josa who blew away the competition in the 100 butterfly with a time of 47.91 that automatically qualifies him for nationals and set a new school record.
 
The Royals were then able to rattle off a string of second place finishes consisting of Alex Menke in the 1000 freestyle, Felipe de Oliveira in the 200 freestyle, Eriksson in the 50 freestyle, Christian Yeatts in the 200 butterfly, and Hayden Kosater in the 100 freestyle.
 
Next up was the sensational Josa who turned in a B-cut time when he won the 200 backstroke in the time of 1:48.93. The next two races were highlighted by more strong finishes when Menke took second in the 500 freestyle, and Eriksson came in second in the 200 breaststroke.
 
The Royals finished their night with fireworks when the 800 freestyle relay team of Josa, Kosater, Ben Taylor, and Oliveira won the race in the time of 6:59.37
 
The Royals hit the water again this Saturday when they host Davidson and Campbell.
