Queens volleyball picks up crucial road win

Box Score SALISBURY, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team was on the road tonight as they squared off against conference opponent Catawba College. The Royals initially stumbled out of the blocks losing the first set 18-25, but came roaring back to life to take the match handily by the score of 3-1.
 
Queens was able to find life in the second set senior Erin Mooney picking up three straight service aces to give Queens an early lead. From there the Royals never looked back and won the set 25-23.
 
Much like the second set the Royals were able to pick up quick leads in the third and fourth frames, and never really were challenged by the home team. The Royals won these sets 25-16, and 25-18 to give themselves a crucial SAC win.
 
The Royals were led all night by senior Anna Gibbs who relentlessly attacked the Indians from her outside position. Gibbs finished the night with 23 kills on a .564 hitting percentage, and only one error.
 
Also ending the night in double digit kills were Keri Kemp with 16, Brittney Barren with 12, and Elizabeth Bialkowski with 10. As a whole the Royals finished the night with a .315 hitting percentage. Running the high-powered offense from her setter's position was Taylor Riley, who continued her assault on the record books with 59 assists.
 
Defensively Meredith Jones led the Royals with three blocks, and multiple players hit the floor to pick up valuable digs. Finishing the night with double digit digs were Riley with 15, Jocelyn Kellinger with 14, Kemp with 12, and Mooney with 11.
 
The Royals are currently 14-10 overall, and 12-8 in conference play. They travel to Anderson this Friday.
