Queens extends win streak to eight at Newberry

Box Score NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team (8-1) collected a 2-1 road win over Newberry College (1-8-1) this afternoon, extending their win streak to eight. With the win, Queens remains the only team in the SAC undefeated at 5-0. The Wolves drop to 1-3-1 in league action.

Freshman defender Austin Huddy would strike first for Queens in the 37th with the second shot on goal for the Royals. Huddy's shot from 15 yards out would travel into the net giving the Fort Mill, S.C., native the first goal of his collegiate career. Queens didn't halt their attack in the closing minutes of the half, firing off a pair of shots in the final four with the hopes of increasing their lead.

The Royals would succeed in increasing the goal margin in the 58th minute of the second half; this goal coming from sophomore forward Erick Suarez. For his eighth goal of the season, Suarez met a chipped cross from senior midfielder Gersi Cilingiri with his head leading the ball into the net. The Royals continued their attack sending five more shots in the direction of Newberry's goalkeeper, while the defense held the Wolves to just five second half shots.

Just one of the Wolves' shots would find the back of the net in the 80th when Brady Francis curled a ball into the far post from outside the 18.

Queens, wanting to walk away with a win in regulation, responded to the Newberry score turning the pressure back up on the defensive end not allowing another shot on goal from the Wolves for the remainder of play.

Goalkeeper Montrell Morgan remains undefeated in the net this season at 8-0 after collecting two saves. Patrick Sweatt of Newberry totaled five saves.

Queens will travel to Catawba College on Wednesday to face the Indians at 7:30 p.m.
