Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team wrapped up a victory-filled five game home stand with a three set win over the Tornados of Brevard tonight. After going 4-1 during this stretch in the friendly confines of Curry Arena the Royals are now 7-8 overall and 7-6 in SAC play.
The Royals blossoming offense started off strong in the first set where the Royals hit .359 as a team and were led by senior
Keri Kemp with seven kills. Also highlighting the set and later the entire match was the Royals serving, with fellow senior
Alexa Sparrell driving home four aces. The Royals took the set by the score of 25-19.
In the second set the Royals continue to stifle to Tornados, and held them to four kills and a hitting percentage of .056. The Royals picked up four more aces, and continue to dominate the match above the net. Clicking on all cylinders the Royals cruised to a 25-13 win.
In the final frame Queens ratcheted up their offense to the next level and pounded down 18 kills, with a hitting percentage of .486. Ahead most of the set the Royals finished the set and match by the score of 25-19.
Kemp led the Royals with 14 kills and
Anna Gibbs and
Meredith Jones chipped in with 12 and 11 respectively. Senior
Taylor Riley continued to show why she is one of the top setters in the conference and finished with 42 assists as well as two aces of her own. Defensively the Royals picked up 10 total blocks and Sparrell led the team with 13 digs.
The Royals travel to Wingate this Tuesday.
