Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In a game where the Royals controlled much on the offensive end, Queens University of Charlotte came up short falling 1-0 to the visiting Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College. The loss is the first for the Royals in conference play as they now hold a 3-1 league record (5-4 overall). The Crusaders improve to 3-1 in Conference Carolinas and 5-3 overall.
Belmont Abbey's Jose Penaloza was able to sneak a ball into the net in the 18
th minute after Queens' keeper,
Montrell Morgan (Charlotte, N.C., East Mecklengburg) came out of the net to deflect a pass. The ball took an unlucky bounce, which Penaloza capitalized on to score the goal into an empty Queens net. Trailing 1-0, the Royals continued their aggressive attack coming up short as the game remained at 1-0 heading into the break.
The Royals dominated the final 45 minutes of play keeping the ball on their half of the field for the majority. However, they were unable to place one of their 10 shots in the net.
Yannick Fischbach (Düsseldorf, Germany, J.L. Mann) led the Royals arsenal with five shots, one coming in the second half that looked promising but bounced off the far inside post.
Morgan finished the night with four saves.
Queens returns to action on Tuesday at home against Catawba College at 7:30 p.m.
