Box Score HICKORY, N.C. – The Royals dropped their game by a score of 4-3 to Lenoir-Rhyne University this evening in non-conference men's soccer action. Queens University of Charlotte is now 4-3 on the year, while the Bears improve their record to 2-4-2.
After the Bears' Conor Doherty struck first putting the home team up 1-0 in the 13
th, Queens'
Gersi Cilingiri (Berat, Albania, Wolfson) would answer to knot the game at 1-1 after blasting a ball into the back of the net a little over two minutes later. Lenoir-Rhyne then scored three consecutive goals in a about a 23 minute span to go ahead 4-1. Cilingiri would close the gap to two with another from right in front of the net following a free kick by the Royals. At the half, Queens trailed the Bears 4-2.
Though outshooting the Bears 13-4 in the second half, Queens was only able to connect once.
Kevin Anderson (Mooresville, N.C., Mooresville ) scored the lone final half goal in the 69
th minute after taking advantage of a failed clear attempt. The sophomore midfielder fired the ball from the top left corner of the box to give the game a 4-3 score. The Royals continued their attack with the hope of equalizing the match but came up short as time ran off the clock.
Queens finished the game with 20 shots to Lenoir-Rhyne's 12.
The Royals will travel to take on Mount Olive College on Wednesday, September 26 at 4 p.m.
