Men’s soccer begins season with road win over North Georgia

Box Score MORROW, Ga. –Freshman forward Erick Suarez netted a goal in the 69th minute to lift the Royals to victory over North Georgia on the road in their season opener. Queens University of Charlotte defeated the Saints 2-1 in men's soccer action to open their season at 1-0, while North Georgia begins their season at 0-1.
 
After going down 1-0 15 minutes into the game with North Georgia, Kevin Anderson (Mooresville, N.C., Mooresville ) was able to put the Royals in a great position with a goal in the 33rd minute. His goal would knot the game at 1-1 heading into the break. Yannick Fischbach (Düsseldorf, Germany, J.L. Mann) assisted on the play.
 
After nearly 25 minutes of play with no score from either side in the second half, Erick Suárez (Mexico City, Mexico, Myers Park) notched the game winner for his first career goal at Queens. Suarez scored the ball after receiving a pass from Gersi Cilingiri (Berat, Albania, Wolfson).
 
Queens edged the Saints in shots 12-11, while losing the battle for corner kicks 6-5. Simen Walmann (Nevlunghavn, Norway, Toppidrettsgymnaset) earned the win in goal for Queens with five goals. Also collecting five saves was North Georgia's Kristopher Alonzo who took the loss in goal. Queens' Jeremy Chambers (Princeton, W.Va., Princeton Senior) led all on the field with four shots.
 
The Royals return to play tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. against the tournament host, Clayton State University.
