Box Score 2 CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte softball team took on Lees-McRae in doubleheader today that displayed the Royals' dominance in the pitching circle. Queens was able to pick up two wins, and brought their record to 24-22 and 12-5 in conference play.
Once again in was senior pitching sensation
Chantel Dodge (Shalimar, Fla., Choctawhatchee) leading the way for the Royals in game one. Continuing her season long dominance Dodge pitched the whole game, and gave up only one hit with two outs in the sixth inning. On the day she struck out ten Bobcats batters while only walking two, and was a key part of the 1-0 win for Queens.
The Royals picked up their lone run in the third when
Whitney Britt (Gibson, N.C., Scotland) scored on a hard ground ball hit by
Shelby O'Brien (Navarre, Fla., Homeschooled). Senior
Keeya Turner (Fayetteville, N.C., 71st ) added the only other offense as she picked up the Royals' two hits during the game.
Starting the second game at pitcher, freshman
Jessica Scott (Franklin, N.C., Raban Gap Nacoochee) added to her recent of streak of strong performance with a complete game effort. She allowed only four hits in the game and kept the Bobcats on their toes with her devastating drop ball, helping give Queens the 4-0 win.
Offensively the Royals crossed home plate four times, and picked up seven hits on the opposing pitcher. Junior
Noemi Rodriguez (Miami, Fla., G. Holmes Braddock Senior ) went 3-3 in the game and batted in two of the Royals' four runs. The only other Royals to pick up hits in the game were
Amanda Meade (Bristow, Va., Osbourn Park) and fellow freshman O'Brien, who each went 2-3.
The Royals return to action this Saturday when the take on St. Andrews University at 2pm at Park Road Park.
