Box Score BANNER ELK, N.C. – Fourteen different Royals sent the ball into the back of the net this afternoon as Queens University of Charlotte picked up a 17-1 women's lacrosse road win over Lees-McRae College. The Royals record improved to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in the league, while the Bobcats fell to 1-7 on the year and 0-4 in Conference Carolinas action.
In her first start of the season goalkeeper
Danielle Horoschak (Jarrettsville, Md., North Harford) held the Bobcats scoreless in the first half of play as the Royals put 10 points on the board.
Brittany Philip (Corning, N.Y., Corning East) got the Royals rolling notching back-to-back scores within less than of minute of each other. She and
Brittany Barnwell (Lorton, Va., Bishop Ireton) led with two goals each at the half.
Queens would continue their domination over Lees-McRae into the second half as they posted six more marks on the board before the Bobcats found a goal with 12 second remaining in play.
Cara Baldini (Silver Spring, Md., Georgetown Visitation Prep) would zip a ball into the net with one second on the clock as Queens walked away the victor.
The Royals outshot the Bobcats 39-5, and won the battle for draw controls 15-5. Horoschak took the win in goal after collecting one save and giving up zero goals.
Chelsea Lancashire (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Nease) took the cage in the second half for Queens and also collected one save. Lees-McRae's Jessica Travers took the loss in the cage while totaling 15 stops.
Philip led Queens in scoring with a hat trick, while Barnwell completed the game with two goals.
Kristi Kemp (Lake Mary, Fla., Winter Springs) and
Caitlin Miller (Bethany Beach, Del., Worcester Prep) led with two assists each. Kemp also notched a goal for three points total in the game.
Allie Rhodes (Davidsonville, Md., South River) caused four turnovers on the defensive end of the field, while
Caitlin Flanagan (West Islip, N.Y., West Islip) and
Akasha Kasper (Greensboro, N.C., Western Guilford) each caused three. Leading in ground balls was Barnwell with four, while Philip and
Arika Zimmerman (Fulton, Md., Reservoir) led in draw controls with three each.
Anna DeLuke scored the Bobcats' lone goal.
Queens will travel to Florida next weekend to take on No. 4 Rollins and No. 12 Florida Southern on April 6 and 7.
