Queens softball sweeps Falcons

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Megan Lathbury (Georgetown, Del., Sussex Central) led the way from the batter's box with five hits in two games against Pfeiffer University, while Chantel Dodge (Shalimar, Fla., Choctawhatchee) joined in from the pitcher's circle gaining two wins on only three hits allowed in the doubleheader. Queens University of Charlotte was able to gain 2-0 and 4-3 wins on the day as they swept conference foe Pfeiffer. With these wins Queens continues to hold their lead of the East Division of Conference Carolinas with a 7-2 conference record, and 17-19 overall record.

“I am really proud of the fight in this team,” said head coach Miranda Ervin. “Chantel Dodge had a great performance and Megan Lathbury really turned it on offensively today. It was a complete team effort and without everyone we wouldn't have been successful.”

The first game was one that was completely dominated by the superb pitching of Dodge. She not only turned in a complete game effort, but also limited Pfeiffer's batters to just one hits.

She was backed by a two run performance by the Royals' offense that was highlighted by the two hit effort put in by Lathbury. Offensively it was Whitney Britt (Gibson, N.C., Scotland) and Lauren Medlin (Gibson, N.C., Scottland) who scored Queens' runs in the first and sixth respectively.

The Royals started the second game in a two run hole before they were able to equalize the score in the sixth with a two run double by Lathbury. While the Falcons were able to regain the lead 3-2 in the same inning, it was Queens who was able to force extra innings and eventually take the game in an eighth frame Kaitlyn Cheek (Richmond, Va., JR Tucker ) single.

In the circle the Royals used freshmen Amanda Rodriguez (Bear Creek, N.C., Chatham Central) and Jessica Scott (Franklin, N.C., Raban Gap Nacoochee) for a combined five innings before Dodge returned for the last three innings to earn the win.

The Royals return to action this Saturday as they host King College in a doubleheader at Park Road Park.
