Box Score WINGATE, N.C. – Corey Geroy (Horseheads, N.Y., Horseheads) collected three goals and five assists pacing the Royals past Wingate University this afternoon in men's lacrosse action. Queens University of Charlotte defeated the Bulldogs 13-8 improving their record to 5-4. Wingate's record dropped to 4-7 on the season.
The first two quarters of play saw offensive swings on each end of the field. Taylor Womble gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead on back-to-back scores with 5:38 left in the first. Queens'
Evan Farkas (Havre de Grace, M.D., C. Milton Wright) and
Justin Kestler (Severna Park, M.D., Chesapeake) would put Queens ahead by one for a short period with consecutive goals before the Bulldogs' Kendall Garrett tied the game up at three with 14 seconds to play.
Both teams scored three goals each in the second keeping things knotted at six heading into the break. Geroy notched two of his goals in the period.
Out of the half, Queens was able to create some space scoring the only three goals in the third.
Matthew Michael (Easton, Pa., Easton) picked up an assists on each of the goals.
The Royals carried their momentum into the final period opening with three scores before Wingate found its first goal since James Wells' with six seconds left in the second period. Troy Press was able to end their drought scoring on a man-up opportunity after receiving a pass from Womble. Almost two minutes later
Jimmy Baker (Prince Fredrick, Md., Calverton) scored Queens' final goal of the game on a feed from
Jimmy Chickerella (Columbus, Ohio, Olentangy Liberty). Wingate would find the back of the net once more before the final horn.
The Royals outshot the Bulldogs 40-24, and collected 43 ground balls to Wingate's 32.
In addition to tallying eight points, Geroy was one of three to collect six ground balls. Michael notched one goal giving him a total of four points. Farkas and Kestler joined Geroy recording hat tricks.
Andrew Hyland (Newtown, Conn., Fairfield Prep) took the win in goal after collecting three saves.
Nick Simonetti (Dublin, Ohio, Dublin Jerome) also saw time in the cage getting two stops.
Womble led the Bulldogs with three points after also notching an assists. Joining him with two goals was Troy Press. Derek Watts recorded two assists. Danny Dlugozima took the loss in net after getting 10 saves.
The Royals return to their home turf on Saturday as they play host to No. 6 Limestone College.
