Royals get rolling in the sixth for game two win over Limestone

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GAFFNEY, S.C. –The Queens University of Charlotte softball team traveled to face Limestone College in a doubleheader today. After a sluggish start and a 2-1 loss in the first game, Queens' bats came alive with a seven run explosion in the sixth inning of game two to give the Royals a 9-4 win.

The first game was one that once again found pitcher Chantel Dodge (Shalimar, Fla., Choctawhatchee) leading the way on the mound. She gave up only one earned run on five hits through seven innings of work. But the team was only able to provide three hits in support, and ultimately dropped the game to the Saints on a run scored on a passed ball in the fifth inning.

The second game was an exciting one for a team that has been looking to reach their offensive potential this season. The Royals jumped to a 2-0 lead through the third inning before falling behind 4-2 in the fourth. Queens did not cross the plate again until the sixth inning. After one out, the Royals batting heated up and they were able to score seven runs in an offensive blast.

With the bases loaded, and one run already scored on an Amanda Meade (Bristow, Va., Osbourn Park) single it was senior Keeya Turner (Fayetteville, N.C., 71st ) who ignited the team with a crucial two out triple clearing all the bases and giving the Royals a lead they would never look back from. Whitney Britt (Gibson, N.C., Scotland) continued the rally by singling her in, and was followed with RBI singles by Emma Schultz (Silver Spring, Md., Paint Branch) and Megan Lathbury (Georgetown, Del., Sussex Central).

Dodge returned to the mound in the sixth, and shut down the Saints in consecutive innings to give the Royals the win. She relieved a strong platoon of freshman consisting of Amanda Rodriguez (Bear Creek, N.C., Chatham Central)Jessica Scott (Franklin, N.C., Raban Gap Nacoochee), and Jennifer Goodman (Centerville, Va., Westfield).

The Royals return to Charlotte on Saturday to play Coker College at 2 p.m.
