Royals pick up first loss of the season against Crusaders

The Royals were defeated 15-11.

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte tried to work their way back into tonight's game with a four goal push in the final eight minutes of play, but time ran out as Belmont Abbey College walked away the victor winning 15-11. The Royals pick up their first loss of the season moving on with a 2-1 record, while the Crusaders gain their first win of the season for a 1-1 record.

The Royals held a 2-1 lead at the 22:40 mark after Shannon Casey (Bel Air, Md., John Carroll) netted a goal on a free-position-shot.  However, Belmont Abbey's Elyse Mohn would tie things up 20 seconds later. The Royals got active in the final eight minutes notching four goals in effort to get back in the game, but the Crusaders' lead proved to be too much to overcome in too little time. Jessica Rooney (Orlando, Fla., Timber Creek) tallied two of Queens' final goals on feeds from Philip.

Philip led the Royals with three goals and two assists for five points, while Casey added four points on two goals and two assists. Barnwell and Rooney each scored two goals. Caitlin Flanagan (West Islip, N.Y., West Islip) led Queens' defense with five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Chelsea Lancashire (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Nease) took the loss in goal with six saves, four caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Dowd led the Crusaders with six points on six goals. Mohn collected four points on three goals and one assists. Tory Morgan took the win in goal getting seven stops.
