Royals overwhelm the Bulldogs in three sets

Box Score WILSON, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team travelled to Barton College to take on the Bulldogs in their second-to-last regular season game today. The Royals jumped on the Bulldogs early, and never let up before taking the match 3-0.
 
In the first set the Royals hit a staggering .517 as a team, and were led offensively by the hard hitting trio of Keri Kemp (Lake Mary, Fla., Lake Mary)  Lindsey Everhart (Cincinnati, Ohio, McNicholas)  and Anna Gibbs (Hickory, N.C., Hickory).  The Royals controlled the set from the beginning thanks to the serving of Jocelyn Kellinger (Roanoke, Va., Cave Spring)  and picked up the 25-13 victory on a kill by Ashlyn Dibrell (Arlington, Texas, Lamar).
 
In the second set the Bulldogs kept the game close, and Queens found itself down 19-18. The Royals were able to push back and take the match with Kemp picking up three kills in the final points to give her team a 25-22 win.
 
In the final set Queens picked up another early lead behind the strong serving of Alexa Sparrell (Winter Park, Fla., Winter Park)  Never letting Barton get within three points the Royals cruised to a 25-16 win following two kills by Alexa Sparrell (Winter Park, Fla., Winter Park).
 
Kemp led the Royals with 10 kills on the day and Taylor Riley (Lynchburg, Va., E.C. Glass) added 33 assists from her setter position. Defensively Sparrell led the Royals with 14 digs, and Kellinger pitched in with 11 digs.
 
The Royals stand at 19-11 overall, and 13-2 in conference play. Queens hosts Lees-McCrae this Tuesday at noon, and will be honoring the team's seniors before the game.
