Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team returned home after two months on the road to face the Augusta State Jaguars in their first home match. Playing at Myers Park High School in front of a packed house the Royals found themselves in a back-and-forth match that they eventually lost 3-1.
In the first set the Royals came out on fire picking up the first three points. The Jaguars were able to rally back and the teams consistently exchanged points until the match was knotted at 19-19. From there Augusta State was able to pull away with a 25-20 victory.
The second set was another tight matchup that showcased both team's firepower and ability to play in close matches. The Royals went on several runs, but were never able to pull away, and eventually fell to the visiting team in extra points 26-24.
Down 2-0 the Royals showed their toughness in the third set, and were able to showcase their explosive offensive throughout the set. The Royals took control early, and were able to forcefully take the set 25-15 to bring the match to 2-1.
In the fourth set Queens were unable to keep the hot hand in the match, and were faced with a fired up Augusta State team. The Royals were unable to overcome an onslaught by the Jaguars, and dropped the set 25-14.
The Royals currently stand 10-8 overall and 5-1 in conference play. They return to action this Friday at 5:00 p.m. when they host conference foe Mount Olive.
