Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team traveled to take on the defending conference tournament champion and two-time regular season champion Coker College Cobras in the quarterfinal round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament defeating the first seeded Cobras 2-1. The Royals, seeded eighth in the tournament, advance to face fourth seeded Barton College on November 2.
Queens got going early in the match placing two in the net within five minutes of each other.
Jeremy Chambers (Princeton, W.Va., Princeton Senior) scored first in the 13
th with a shot from 25-yards out that hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced into the net.
Thiago Andrade (Salvador, Brazil, Colegio Modulo) assisted on the play. In the 17
th,
Felipe Netto (Salvador, Brazil, Colegio Modulo) followed Chambers with one of his own.
Yannick Fischbach (Düsseldorf, Germany, J.L. Mann) fed a ball into the box that Netto beat Coker's keeper to before scoring and giving the visiting Royals a 2-0 lead. The Royals would hold on to the 2-0 lead into the break.
The Cobras were anxious to get on the board in the second netting a goal a little over three minutes into the second. However, the Royals would not let them get any closer as they turned up the defensive pressure holding the Cobras scoreless for the remainder of play.
Queens was outshot 13-9 and won zero corner kicks to Coker's 10.
Montrell Morgan (Charlotte, N.C., East Mecklengburg) collected the win in the net after notching three saves.
Queens will take on Barton College on Friday, November 2 at 7 p.m. The Royals fell to the Bulldogs 1-0 in the regular season match up at home.
