Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team played host to Lincoln Memorial University for a non-conference Senior Day match falling 4-2 to the Railsplitters. The Royals dropped to 6-10 overall on the year, while Lincoln Memorial improved to 10-3-1.
The Royals struck in the first 20 minutes of play when
Kevin Anderson (Mooresville, N.C., Mooresville ) controlled a ball in the box, and fired it into the net giving the Queens a 1-0 lead. The Railsplitters were able to tie the match in the 36
th when Mario Pinto dribbled the ball into the box finding Chris Nash in front of the net, who scored the goal. The score would sit tied at 1-1 at the half.
In the second half, Pinto of the Railsplitters scored three goals in row to record a hat trick. His first came in the 61
st when Leonardo Germniani fed a through ball to Pinto who beat Queens' keeper,
Matthew Cavallo (Davidson, N.C., East Lincoln) to the ball and put it in the net. Pinto's next two goals were unassisted from in front of the net. The Royals were able to close the gap to two in the 90
th with a goal from
Erick Suárez (Mexico City, Mexico, Myers Park) but that was as close as the home team would get as time ticked off the clock.
Keepers
John Rush (Jacksonville, Fla., Bolles) and Cavallo split time in the net collecting a combined total of four saves.
During halftime, seniors
Julian Mitchell (Jacksonville, Fla., Wolson), Ian Murray (Pine, Colo., Conifer), Alvaro Guerra (Valencia, Venezuela, Woodward Academy), Joshua Dowd (Houston, Texas, James E. Taylor),
Jeremy Chambers (Princeton, W.Va., Princeton Senior), Eric Klocke (Southlake, Texas, Southlake), Rush and Cavallo were recognized for all they gave to the program in their four years of play.
The Royals will travel to play Erskine College on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. in their final regular season game of the year.
