Guerra nets goal for Queens in loss to Limestone

Queens fell 4-1 to the Saints.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte Men's Soccer Team dropped a Conference Carolinas match tonight to Limestone College. The Royals were outscored 4-1 falling to 2-2 on the season and 1-1 in the league. The Saints move on at 3-0 in the conference and 5-2 overall.

Alvaro Guerra (Valencia, Venezuela, Woodward Academy) scored his third goal of the season in the 14th minute of play putting the Royals up 1-0. After rebounding a shot fired by Felipe Netto (Salvador, Brazil, Colegio Candido Portinari) that ricocheted off of the post, Guerra slid the ball into the net from inside the box.

Not even two minutes later, Thomas Metzemaekers of the Saints fired a bomb from outside of the 18 that zipped past Queens' keeper, Matthew Cavallo (Davidson, N.C., East Lincoln). Soon after, Jorge MacKenna fed a racing Jack Bailey the ball in the box; which he passed into the net making the score 2-1 in the Saints' favor.

Just before Bailey's goal, Netto had a chance to net a freebie that missed the goal by a hair. Limestone's keeper, HB Lockwood, dropped a ball right in front of Netto's feet that he punched towards the net missing.

The Saints would net their final goal of the first half on a play similar to their last. This time Sam Orritt passed a ball to Metzemaeker as he scored his second goal of the game.

At the break, the Saints had taken one more shot than the Royals. Cavallo finished the half with three saves.

The Royals took only one shot in the first 25 minutes of the second half before increasing their pace in the final 15 minutes of regulation. However, shots by Yannick Fischbach (Dussaldor F, Germany, J.L. Mann) and Eric Klocke (Southlake, Texas, Southlake) could not find the range before the Saints put the match away in the 81st minute. Bailey booted in his second score of the game after getting behind the defense and then beating Queens's second half keeper, Simen Walmann (Nevlunghavn, Norway, Toppidrettsgymnaset) one-on-one, securing the 4-1 win.

Wallmann finished the half with four saves.

Queens will jump back into Conference Carolinas action on Saturday when they play host to Coker College in a game slated to begin at 5 p.m.
