Erskine tops Royals in first softball game of the day

The loss if the first of the double-elimination tournment for Queens

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- In a non-elimination game #2 seed Erskine played #4 seed Queens. Erskine defeated Queens 6-0.
 
Erskine put five runs on the scoreboard to break the stalemate in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sophomore right hander Kelsey Spurrier pitched seven innings, shutting out the Queens offense. Senior second baseman Lindsey LaPrad went 2-for-3, scoring two runs, and driving in a run also. Spurrier struck out eight hitters and only allowed four hits all game.
 
Queens senior right hander Brandy Jester (Georgetown, Del., Sussex Central) got the start and surrendered six runs on nine hits, while striking out four. Four different Queens' hitters had hits.
 
Erskine will play the winner of #5 seed Lees-McRae and #4 seed Queens. Queens vs. Lees-McRae was started Saturday but has been rain delayed until Sunday morning at 10:30am. The game is tied 0-0 in the top of the fourth inning. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday at noon. If need be there will be a second game at 2 pm.
