SUMTER, S,C,- The men's tennis team will play for the Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship on Sunday after they defeated Mount Olive 5-1 in the semifinal round on Saturday morning. The Royals already won the Conference Carolinas Regular Season Championship, the first in program history, and if they are to win the tournament championship it would also be a program first.
Queens won two of the three doubles matches to take the 2-1 lead. At No. 1 was Christiaan Lee-Daigle (Tecumseh, Ontario, L'Essor Secondary School) and Raahil Dhruva (London, England, Parmiter's) and they won a close one, 8-6, over Alex Queiros and Santana. In the second flight it took a little extra to get a winner with Queens prevailing 9-8 (7-2). David Hannon (Gastonia, N.C., Episcopal Alexandria) and Joshua Bloch (Johannesburg, South Africa, King David) defeated Murilo Pelgrino and Thiago Dualiby.
Ignacio Casali (Farmingdale, N.Y., Farmingdale) and Gustavo Munhoz (Santos, Brazil, COC Universitario) lost in their pairing 8-4 to Yoann Pham and Diogo Sender.
Queens swept in singles action, only needing the first three flights to gain the victory.
Last year Mount Olive knocked Queens out of the tournament in the quarterfinal round by a score of 5-3.
