Royals roll past St. Andrews

The Royals defeated the Knights 18-11.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte remains undefeated in Conference Carolinas women's lacrosse action after picking up an 18-11 win over St. Andrews Presbyterian College. The Royals are now 5-5 (2-0 CC), while the Knights fall to 2-8 (0-2 CC) after being hand its sixth straight loss.

After the Knights jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first four minutes of play, Queens' Kristi Kemp (Lake Mary, Fla., Winter Springs) found a goal at 24:33. The Royals then scored eight of the next nine goals of the game taking over the lead, 9-5. Brittany Philip (Corning, N.Y., Corning East)Amanda Martin (Geneva, N.Y. , Geneva), and Kemp each notched two goals during the run.

Megan Jolly and Kim McDaniel closed the Queens lead to two after scoring back-to-back goals, but the Royals answered back once again closing the half on a 3-to-0 run making the score 12-7 at the break.

McDaniel opened the second of half of play with her third goal of the game bringing the Knights to within four of Queens. Martin soon responded tallying back-to-back goals as the Royals put together a 4-to-0 run creating an eight point lead, the largest of the game.

The Royals would see two more goals before the final horn en route to the 18-11 victory.

Queens outshot the Knights 44-25 and scooped up 44 ground balls to St. Andrews' 29. Chelsea Lancashire (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Nease) was awarded the win in goal after getting nine stops. Morgan Achilles of the Knights took the loss in goal while tallying 16 saves.

Shannon Casey (Bel Air, Md., John Carroll) led the Royals with seven points after scoring two goals and assisting on five. Martin led in goals with four. Kemp and Philip each recorded hat tricks. Emily Balmer (Damascus, Md., Damascus)and Akasha Kasper (Greensboro, N.C., Western Guilford) led in ground balls with eight and seven, respectively.

Jolly led the Knights and all scorers with six goals. She also had two assists giving her a total of eight points. McDaniel finished with four points and an assist. Achilles led St. Andrews with seven ground balls.

The Royals will play host to Erskine College on Saturday at 2 pm while also celebrating Senior Day.
