Volleyball dominates St. Andrews

Queens defeated the Knights 3-0.

LAURINBURG, N.C. – The Royals picked up their 20th victory of the season in commanding fashion downing the Knights of St. Andrews University 3-0. The Royals didn't allow the Knights to score more than 14 points in a single set defeating St. Andrews by scores of 25-14, 25-12 and 25-12.

With the win, the Royals complete their fourth home-and-home sweep of the year improving to 14-2 in league play and 20-8 overall. St. Andrews drops to 0-16 in conference play and 2-29 on the season.

Setters Avery Moore (Arlington, Texas, Lamar) and Ashlyn Dibrell (Arlington, Texas, Lamar) spread the ball around enabling the Royals to attack from multiple positions. Brittney Barren (Ham Lake, Minn., Blaine) led the way with six kills, while Anna Gibbs (Hickory, N.C., Hickory) and Keri Kemp (Lake Mary, Fla., Lake Mary) each notched five. Moore led with 13 assists, and almost recorded a double-double notching nine digs. Jocelyn Kellinger (Roanoke, Va., Cave Spring) also totaled nine digs on the back line. Ashley Winters (Fredericktown, Ohio, Highland) and Gibbs led at the net collecting five blocks each.

The Knights struggled putting down balls only collecting 16 kills in the match. Ashleigh Fritter and Celia Duggan had five kills apiece. Megan Nelson and Ruka Akolade collected 10 digs each for St. Andrews' defense.

Queens hit an impressive .351 in the match on 32 kills and only six errors. The second set featured a .500 clip from the Royals.

The Royals will travel to Coker College tomorrow to face the Cobras at 2 p.m. for their last regular season match of the year.
