CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball picked up a pair of victories Friday at Curry Arena, defeating Chattanooga, 3-1, in the morning before sweeping Buffalo, 3-0, in the nightcap. The Royals moved to 2-6 on the season after earning their first two wins of 2026.
THE SHORT STORY
Queens rallied from an opening-set loss against Chattanooga to win three straight sets and take the morning match, 3-1. The Royals then carried that momentum into the night, sweeping Buffalo in three sets to complete the doubleheader sweep.
Against Chattanooga, Queens posted 60 kills and hit .207 as a team. Emma Norris led the Royals with 14 kills, while Elizabeth Layson added 13 and Callie DeSchryver recorded 11 kills and 23 digs.
The Royals continued their strong offensive performance against Buffalo, hitting .272 with 42 kills. Layson and Norris again led the attack with 13 and 10 kills, respectively, while DeSchryver added seven kills and 10 digs.
MATCH ONE: QUEENS 3, CHATTANOOGA 1
Chattanooga took the opening set, 25-18, but Queens responded in the second set with a 25-21 victory to even the match.
The Royals carried that momentum into the third set, hitting .175 while holding Chattanooga to a .000 attack percentage in a 25-20 win. Queens closed out the match in the fourth, hitting .292 with 18 kills and just four errors in a 25-17 victory.
Norris finished with 14 kills on .243 hitting, while Layson added 13 kills. DeSchryver posted 11 kills, 23 digs and an ace. Tyler Peluso recorded 17 assists, while Marlee Cook added 22 assists.
Destiny Wiggins led the defensive effort with 17 digs, while DeSchryver added 23.
MATCH TWO: QUEENS 3, BUFFALO 0
Queens opened the nightcap with a 25-23 win and followed with another 25-23 victory in the second set. The Royals closed out the sweep with a dominant 25-18 third-set win.
Queens hit .519 in the final set, recording 15 kills with just one error on 27 attacks.
Layson led the Royals with 13 kills on .357 hitting, while Norris added 10 kills on .320 hitting. DeSchryver contributed seven kills and 10 digs.
The Royals also recorded eight service aces in the sweep, with Megan Kelly leading the way with three. Peluso added 11 assists and an ace, while Cook finished with 17 assists.
