Men’s soccer falls in road game against Mars Hill

The Royals lost 2-0.

Mars Hill, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team, ranked 10th in the Southest region, traveled to Mars Hill College this evening to face the Lions in a nonconference match-up. The Royals fell to Mars Hill, who is ranked ninth in the Southeast region, 2-0 giving them a 1-1 (0-0 CC) record. Mars Hill improves to 3-0 on the year.

Mars Hill got on the board in the 20th minute with a goal from Steven Bivens assisted by Richard Osterloh. The Royals had a few looks at the goal but couldn't connect before the end of the first half as the Lions led 1-0.

Brandon Tardioli of the Lions scored the second and final goal of the game in the 65th minute assisted by Bivens.

Queens had one last chance to prevent a shutout and get on the board in the 85th minute as Patrick Morgan (Iron Station, N.C., East Lincoln ) booted a ball served from a corner kick. The ball went high and the game ended with a final score of 2-0.

Jeremy Chambers (Princeton, W.Va., Princeton Senior) led the Royals with three shots on the night. Giancarlo Aristondo (Charlotte, N.C., South Mecklenburg) recorded six saves for Queens. The Royals were outshot 15 to eight and lost the battle of corner kicks five-to-two.

Bivens led the Lions with four shots. Rury Caulfield and Tardioli booted three shots apiece.

Queens will be back in action Saturday, September 11, at home against St. Andrews Presbyterian College.
