CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte's women's lacrosse program struggled against a hot Belmont Abbey offense, as they fell to the Crusaders 16-6 on Saturday. The Royals fall to 3-2 (5-9 overall) in Conference Carolinas, while the Crusaders move to 4-2 (6-8).
Brittany Philip (Corning, N.Y., Corning East) and
Kelley Duffey (New Hope, Minn. , Robinsdale Cooper ) led Queens with two goals, while
Shannon Casey (Bel Air, Md., John Carroll) and
Caitlin O'Rourke ( Winter Springs, Fla., Winter Springs ) had lone goals apiece.
Belmont Abbey outshot Queens 33-27 as the Crusaders jumped ahead 4-0 in the first 15 minutes. Philip closed the Abbey lead to 4-1 with 13:45 left, but Laurie Jordan scored the next three goals in a span of ten minutes, to move the lead to 7-1.
The Royals defense continued to struggle in the second half, as it allowed four unanswered goals in the first six minutes out of the break to fall behind 11-2. Despite falling behind, Queens continued to labor, only turning the ball over four times while tallying 15 shots in the second half.
The Royals look to rebound Saturday, April 17th at 11:00 a.m. when they welcome Pfeiffer to Queens Sports Complex for Senior Day.
