CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Queens softball players
Megan Campbell (Raleigh, N.C., Athens Drive ) and
Chantel Dodge (Shalimar, Fla., Choctawhatchee) swept the Conference Carolinas weekly softball awards for the sixth week of the 2010 season. Campbell was named the player of the week while Doge earned player of the week honors.
Campbell, a senior, had a breakout week for Queens. Campbell hit 7-15 for a .466 average over the Royals five-game stretch at the Francis Marion Tournament in Florence, S.C. She recorded her single best offensive effort this season going 3-4 and scoring three of the Royals six runs in the 6-3 win over Saint Leo on March 13. Additionally, Campbell recorded one of her six RBI of the week during the win. Queens went 3-2 over the weekend including a 2-1 win against region powerhouse Francis Marion. In addition to Campbell's solid effort at the plate, she was 3-3 in stolen bases, hit two doubles, scored three runs, and had ten putouts with four assists and no errors.
Dodge, a sophomore, was a perfect 3-0 for starts this weekend including her first no-hitter of her career at Queens to open the Francis Marion Tournament. Dodge struck out an amazing 23 batters in five games including a game-high and season best ten against Saint Leo in a 6-3 win. Currently Dodge is fourth in the conference with 61 K's. This is Dodge's second time being named the pitcher of the week. She previously won on March 10, 2009.
The last weekly awards won by Queens were on March 24, 2009 when Britney Stephens won for pitcher of the week and on March 16, 2006
Kari Kmetic was named the player of the week.
