CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Sharp shooter Brittany Barnwell (Lorton, Va., Bishop Ireton) found the back of the net six times to lead the Royals pass the Flying Fleet of Erskine College in an away game this evening in Due West, S.C. Queens University of Charlotte won the game 20-2 to clench their first win of the season. With the win the Royals are 1-2 overall (1-0 CC) and Erskine falls to 0-3 on the year.
The Royals outshot Erskine 19-5 in each half of play giving them a total 38 shots for the game. Queens had ten different players get on the board in their aggressive offense which scored ten points in each half of play.
The Royals also controlled the draw winning 16 of the 24 draw controls. Brittany Philip (Corning, N.Y., Corning East) scooped up three draw controls to lead the team.
Enna Saffos (Centerville, Queen Anne) was the second leading scorer for the ROyals with three goals in the contest. Kristi Kemp (Lake Mary, Fla., Winter Springs), Caitlin Miller (Ocean View, Del., Worcester Prep), and Caitlin O'Rourke ( Winter Springs, Fla., Winter Springs ) each netted two points for Queens and five other players each had one goal. Senior Kelley Duffey (New Hope, Minn. , Robinsdale Cooper ) had an assist to go along with her one goal. Allie Rhodes (Davidsonville, Md., South River), Kemp, and O'Rourke tallied three ground balls apiece on the evening.
Goalies Rebecca Markle (Hampstead, Md., North Carroll ), Chelsea Lancashire (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Nease), and Charlotte Tracey (Owings Mills, Md., Garrison Forest) each saw 20 minutes of play in the goal.
Sophomores Alesia Jerrells and Lisa Kmonicek of Erskine put up a goal apiece both of which came in the first half.
The Royals are back in action Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Queens Sports Complex against Mercyhurst College who is ranked fifth in the nation.
