Royals fall to Falcons

Queens lost 14-4.

MISENHEIMER, N.C. –  Brittany Barnwell scored her second and third goals of the season in a loss to Pfeiffer University this morning. The Royals fell to the Falcons 14-4 in a game that does not count towards their conference record. With the loss, Queens University of Charlotte falls to 0-2 on the season as Pfeiffer opens their season at 1-0.

Pfeiffer struck just 49 seconds in as Jessica Kennedy (Perth, AUSTRALIA) quickly tallied her first of the season. Queens would square the contest on a Brittany Barnwell (Lorton, Va., Bishop Ireton) goal before the Falcons regained the lead with a Sarah Hebberd strike at 24:12. Again, Barnwell would tie the contest 2-2 with her second score 45 seconds later.

With just over 17 minutes to play in the first half, Hebberd found the back of the cage again to give the hosts a 3-2 advantage. A late score by Allie Gamble of the Falcons with 78 seconds to go gave the Pfeiffer a 4-2 lead at the break.

Queens fought back to make it a one-goal game 4:31 into the second period as Caitlin O'Rourke ( Winter Springs, Fla., Winter Springs ) hit to make it 4-3. From there, Pfeiffer would go on to register the next nine goals opening up Saturday's contest. A number of different Falcons players scored in in a 4:45 span to put Pfeffer up 11-3.

Brittany Philip (Corning, N.Y., Corning East) scored the final goal for Queens with just over seven minutes to play before Gamble finished off the day's scoring with 17 ticks left on the clock.

Taylor Kuhn (Columbus, Ohio, Olentangy ) and Alison Doron ( Zionsville, Ind., Zionsville ) each recorded three ground balls. Rebecca Markle (Hampstead, Md., North Carroll ) recorded 12 saves on the day.

Allie Gamble (Easton, MD), Sarah Hebberd (Golden, CO) and Tori Binder (Woodstock, MD) each notched hat trick for the Falcons.

The Royals are back in action on Wednesday, February 24th at 6:00 p.m. at Erskine College.
